Annual savings of 40% in hot water generation at St Johns Hospital and a more comfortable environment.
St Johns Hospital is located in Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford. The hospital provides long term care and specific rehabilitation programmes to it’s patients. This is a four ward hospital, comprising 32 beds per ward. The building also has full catering and rehabilitation facilities onsite.
In 2013, a project between GF Sustainable and the Health Service Executive South East was initiated to significantly reduce energy usage. This was to be implemented through increased energy efficiency, that would also significantly reduce CO2 emissions. Significant running cost savings had to be achieved.
GF Sustainable proposed a highly efficient heating system. The proposal was to install an Ilios high efficiency hot water heater, convert an existing oil burner to LPG and install a flue economiser to same, install a heat recovery system from the kitchen, and to configure a completely new controls philosophy. In addition, the solution would resolve distribution heating issues present within the building.
GF Sustainable delivered the project in August 2014. The hospital now enjoys in excess of a 40% reduction in annual running costs, and a 42% reduction in CO2 emissions.
